Frequently asked questions
We collect publicly available proxy addresses from hundreds of open sources. We do not run these proxies; we only find and test them.
Every proxy sends a real request through itself to our judge server. We measure the round-trip time, read the headers to determine anonymity and look up the country of the exit IP. Working proxies are re-checked roughly every minute.
Public proxies are unstable by nature: they are overloaded, restarted or closed by their owners. Use recently checked proxies and keep a few spares.
Transparent proxies pass your real IP to the website. Anonymous ones hide your IP but reveal that a proxy is used. Elite proxies hide both.
HTTP for browsers and web scraping, SOCKS5 for anything else, including messengers and apps. SOCKS4 is an older, simpler variant.
The time in milliseconds that a full test request took through the proxy to our server and back. Lower is better.
Using a proxy is legal in most countries, but what you do through it must also be legal. Respect the terms of the websites you visit.
Treat every free proxy as untrusted. Use HTTPS websites, avoid logging in to important accounts and never send payment details through a public proxy.
